Key Points
We were very fortunate with the timing of our Athletics Carnival as we finally got to escape the weeks of rain that kept us all indoors for so long. It was fantastic to see both students and staff so happy to be outdoors and clearly enjoying the fresh air, sun and activities on offer. With a full program of events and high participation across all age groups, the day was abuzz with activity, energy, encouragement, happy faces and plenty of school spirit.
The Athletics track at the Ridge allowed all track and field competitors to do their best at top grade facilities. The tabloid format saw each age group move through each of the individual field and track events efficiently with the emphasis being on participation and fun. More importantly, with each age group moving through the events together with peers, it was a great atmosphere with friends and peers competing together, bonding and encouraging each other.
Congratulations to Year 12 for preparing a most welcome BBQ lunch and for the snacks and drinks on offer for the hungry hordes. Your cooking skills and happy faces were well appreciated by students and staff alike. Unfortunately your winning streak did not extend to the day’s finale, the students versus staff relay, which saw the teacher team convincingly beat the Year 12 team with the entire school cheering on.
A special congratulations to our high achieving athletes who will go on to represent our school at the Zone Athletics Carnival in June. We look forward to sharing and celebrating your successes with our school community.
A huge thank you to Mr Williams and the PDHPE faculty for their faultless organisation of the day. Your efforts were well appreciated by all and had the day run smoothly.
Well done Gymea on a fantastic day!
