All students in years 7-10 will sit their formal semester 2 examinations in the school hall. These examinations will be held for all core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science and HSIE (History/Geography). The results from these examinations will contribute towards their final Semester 2 report marks.
Other subjects also have assessments that will be scheduled during normal lessons. Task notifications outlining specific details will be given to students by their teachers. They will also be available on the school website.
Preparing for exams
It’s important that students allocate time to all subjects to help them prepare to do their best. Setting aside regular study time for revising notes, practising exam style questions under timed conditions, writing summaries and compelting all online formative tasks are some ways students can form good routines for effective study and success.
Knowing what to expect
Knowing the weighting, length and format of the exam will also help students be well prepared. Does the exam have different sections, multiple choice questions, short answers, extended responses, problem solving? How much time should be allocated to each of the different sections of the exam? Is equipment such as a calculator and ruler required? Checking each task notification carefully should allow students to be well prepared with the answers to these crucial questions.
Attendance
Students need to be punctual to school. Extra time cannot be awarded for students who are late to the examinations. Uniform is compulsory. Students with an exam scheduled for Periods 1 and 2 will go to their normal Period 1 lesson, have their rolls marked and be escorted to the hall by their class teachers. All other exams later in the day can report straight to the hall. Students who are absent from an exam should notify the school before 9:00am on 9521 3244.
